I stayed here for two weeks in January 2008.
This is an apartment on the budget side and there could surely be improvements, but the price is justified.
It gets noisy at time, even if it is not on the street, but this is a problem any Buenos Aires apartment with no double windows has.
While I was there there where occasional workers drilling somewhere downstairs during working hours (not at night and not too early in the morning).
The bathroom had a problem (toilet not flushing) which was then solved.
I would change the shower curtain, I think it's time.
If you have never been to Buenos Aires makes sure you understand how hot water works, it is fairly simple once you know it, while it may take a bit of guesswork if you don't (I didn't).
Note: to get the water at the right temperature, adjust it at the boiler, not once in the shower, it is much easier.
The view is mostly the apartment in front, but you get your privacy with the shutters.
Air conditioning works just fine, as TV and internet was working well 99% of the times (a couple of times the server was down). No wireless, just cable and no passwords required.
A test on Speedtest.net says the speed is 542kb/s which should be slow compared to the 7MB I have at home but I did not notice the difference. I am still puzzled by this.
Yes, I would bring with me a longer cable (or suggest Roxana to buy one) as it was....just to sit on the table..almost.
People I met in the stairs and lift always greeted, nice feeling.
Location is great, just 2 block (quadras, 200 metres) from San Telmo square and for breakfast you can choose one of the two restaurants downstairs, where you get coffee with milk and medialunas for 6/pesos. To eat go to Roli, which is cheaper, homely and has good food (12 pesos for a steak with chips).
I used to walk to Plaza de Mayo, Corrientes (theaters) and the microcentro (Floria, Lavalle)
, but the subway (San Juan is closer) is about 7 minutes walk away.
The area is safe and there are that great weekend marked and Tango dances, nusic and artists on weekends. Loved it.
Roxana, the owner, is very nice and even gave me one of her ceramic handmade wall hangers as a present.
I recommend this place if you are on a budget, do not mind minor imperfection and are looking for a popular Buenos Aires feeling. |
